New England - Fall Color Trip 2013

Having settled into our Motel in Woodstock, Vermont, we set out to explore the local attractions.

We chose this place because we were somewhat familiar with its photographic opportunities as this had also been our base some twenty years earlier when we joined a photo workshop that concentrated its course in this same area.

For specific spots to explore, we relied on some old notes made years earlier under the guidance of the instructor for that photographic workshop - where the instructor had already performed extensive scouting of the area on a number of trips, and could guide us to the best spots.

We take Route 106 south to look for Jenne Road

Our first expedition was to go look for the "Jenne Farm" which had been the subject of a detailed photo study many years before.

When we think we are near the turn-off, we stop and ask a local famer. "Keep going to the top of the hill and then turn right - that'll be it."

No sooner had we turned right on to the little dirt road, when we were greeted with this view...

For the next few pictures, no words are necessary.

The Jenne road continues on past another farm before it eventualy loops back to the main road

A lone old apple tree survives in the horses paddock.

We bid farewell to Jenne Road and turn our attention northwards, through Woodstock and on to the Pomfret Road in search of another farm that we photographed many years before.

After a few detours and wrong turn-offs, we find it. Sleepy Hollow Farm - as magical as it ever was.

Again - words are superfluous.

Tractor drivers and slow puppies at play.

On the honor system - take what you want and leave the money in the jam jar on the table.

We bid farewell to South Pomfret, and head towards the neighboring town of Hartland.

We follow a charming dirt road relying on our GPS to guide us to where we have arranged to visit an artist whose paintings we have long enjoyed.

The view along the road is just as spectacular

View from the back yard of our hosts.

Nearby is a little country cemetery with the rather unneccessary notice "Dead End".
